Etisalat Lanka is the 3rd largest mobile telecom
operator in Sri Lanka operating under Etisalat Group UAE. Etisalat is the first
cellular operator in Sri Lanka who inaugurated its operations as
Celltel Lanka in 1989. Then the company went rebranding and became Tigo. Tigo
was acquired by Etisalat Group in 2010.

Currently Etisalat have the widest 2G network coverage in
Sri Lanka and also have 3G technology around urban parts of Sri Lanka. Etisalat
Group is currently operating in 16 different countries with around 170 million
subscriber base while Etisalat Lanka have nearly 3 million subscriber base.

Mobile Telecom System

Mobile or cellular networks are two way communication
networks where the user equipment(usually a mobile phone) communicates
wirelessly through radio frequency to the service provider. Mobile network
allow number of uses such as voice calls, messaging and internet data.

Most common technology system deployed by cellular network
is Global System for Mobile Communication or GSMGSM Overview: Mobile network devices are connected wirelessly to at least
one transceiver called the Base Transceiver Station(BTS) which offer services
provided by it’s technology(2G/3G)The transceiver is connected wirelessly or through wire to a
Base Station Controller which controls and provides intelligent management of
resources for hundreds of BTS.BSC also acts as the gateway connecting to the
core two networks of the mobile operator. Mobile Switching Center is the primary node responsible for
providing voice and SMS services connecting to the public switching telephone network
(PSTN). MSC handles opening and terminating end to end connections between
voice calls and SMS.VLR is database that contain the exact location of the
devices connected to the network at present. It is an integral part of the MSC
as it enables end to end connections to be made.HLR is the database that contain subscriber information of
networkSGSN is a support system for the main GGSN system for
handling data connections. SGSN handles routing to BSC and BTS, authenticating
and security ect. GGSN is the main gateway for connecting to the Internet for
GSM systems. GGSN converts the GPRS data coming from the mobile devices to the
relevant Internet Protocols and vice versa.CvBS is the billing system that work in parallel connected
to the two main systems MSC and SGSN/GGSN. It is responsible for real time charging
and authorizing access for users of the mobile network. As well as adding value
added charges, calculating taxes ect. 

 Revenue AssuranceRevenue Assurance is a unique business activity that is most
commonly found in the telecom industry. RA allow profit gains to the business
without additionalsales by analyzing and finding and remedying revenue leakages
within the business activities, systems and processes. Modern telecom operations is a complex system that involve
many different technologies, systems and processes (external and internal)
working together in sync to perform at an acceptable level. These complex
systems are further complicated by the fact today telecom industry is highly
competitive. Profit margins are very low and in an effort to attract and keep
subscribers many different products and service (packages) are releases
hurriedly. Minor error in any of those systems, products will create an impact
on service and can lead to compound effects in the revenue. Revenue Assurance
department is establish to identify and prevent these leakages. Key Responsibilities and
