Even though Nordic speakers have dwindled down to a miniscule amount, there are several aspects to admire, such as the relations between the Nordic language, trade, education, religion, statistics, and culture. Nordic is an influential language not only during the Viking era, but in today’s society. To begin with, trade is an important topic to consider when analyzing the Nordic language. Nordic plays one of the most important roles in trade. One of the Countries that has Nordic influence is Iceland. Iceland Trades with several countries, Sweden is one of their most common partners which also has Nordic influence in its language. Iceland’s most exported good is fish; they are the fourth largest exporter of fish. Iceland grants duty free market access for most fish and fishery products. A duty free market means people who sell fish or fish products in Iceland do not have to pay local or national taxes. In recent years Icelandic exports of manufactured goods have been growing rapidly, products such as aluminium and medical and pharmaceutical products. Iceland’s exports of services increased significantly in the years after the economic and financial crisis. Iceland’s exports totaled over one billion. Trade is important when trying to uncover all the Nordic language has and had to offer not only during the Scandinavian Viking Era but also the Twenty-First Century.Without a doubt, education was and still is another important topic that comes to mind when exploring the Nordic language. Nordic influences countries like Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. This is an important factor when moving from one Nordic speaking country to another. The people of these countries can understand each other whether through the similarities of writing or speaking, which impacts where many people migrate for schools, colleges, and jobs. These three factors alone are important in analyzing how Nordic has affected the world around it. They not only show the diversity of Nordic by allowing it to be dispersed by many, but to show how it affects a country’s well being. Without the knowledge the Nordic language has implemented, the world would be less cultivated and less historically inclined because of the Nordic language influence in education. During the Scandinavian Viking Era, the Scandinavian Vikings tried to grow barley in Iceland. The temperature was too cold therefore they continued on with their mission because they were resilient. In the year 930, the colonies most powerful families started a general assembly otherwise, Althing, where representatives of the population met annually to discuss important matters and dispute. The institution is still in operation today, more than a thousand years later. This is a sign of evolution in which Nordic has helped man accomplish feats such as the world’s first parliament. There was also a system for writing Nordic in the early ages. Younger Futhark was a Runic script used to write Old Norse, and was the primary alphabet in Norway, Sweden and Denmark throughout the Viking Age, but was mostly replaced by the Latin alphabet in the year 1200 due to the conversion of most of Scandinavia to Christianity. Although Younger Futhark was partially replaced by Latin, there are still many runes in which Nordic vikings inscribed their alphabet, so we can uncover its roots. Whether present or past the Nordic language has been closely intertwined with education.Although,  there are plenty of interesting topics to study when it comes to Nordic religion, their Gods are the most prominent in historical records. Linguistics show that the Nordic language is closely intertwined with Nordic Gods. Norse mythology is composed of Gods, Godesses, immortals, and other creatures, such as trolls, dwarfs, and giants. Early inhabitants of Iceland left behind several clues of their superiors. Whether the stories were about Thor the God of justice or Loki the God of trickery; they are always in conflict with each other and are constantly fighting. There are even runes found in Iceland, which are carved with tales of Nordic chiefs encountering giants who roam the land seeking to wreak havoc. Norse mythology was important to the Scandinavian Vikings. The Vikings passed down stories of valiant heroes standing up for what they believe in. These stories gave the Scandinavian Vikings courage when they fought battles. The Norse Gods kept the Scandinavian Vikings weary of fatal thoughts such as greed, lust, envy, and gluttony. The Vikings feared they would be sent to Hel upon their death due to these thoughts. The Vikings also dreamt of dying in battle because they would then be sent to Valhalla. Valhalla is a hall where Scandinavian Vikings who have died are carried by women into Valhalla to meet Odin, these women are known as Valkyries. Odin is the Nordic God of war, death, poetry, wisdom, and he is the father of all Nordic Gods.  The Nordic Gods shaped the way the Scandinavian VIkings felt, acted, and spoke. Through all of the struggles the Nordic language has encountered, Nordic mythology has still manages to be one of the most well known mythologies in the world. Statistics is an important factor when considering the importance of the Nordic language. Statistics helps recognize the important contributions a language has had on a society. According to Some Facts about Nordic Languages, there are 9 million Swedish speakers, 6 million Danish speakers, 5 million speakers of Norwegian, 320,000 speakers of Icelandic, 90 000 speakers of Faroese. Another important fact of Danish speakers is “approximately 50,000 Danes residing in Northern Germany also speak Danish.”(https://www.alsintl.com/resources/languages/danish/)”. “The earliest known inscriptions in Scandinavia date from the the 2nd century AD and were written in Runes mainly on stone, or on personal artifacts such as brooches and swords. The majority of these inscription have been found in Denmark and Sweden, and they are written in a language much more archaic than Old Norse.”  Between 800 and 1050 AD a division began to appear between East Norse, which developed into Swedish and Danish, and West Norse, which developed into Norwegian, Faroese, Icelandic and Norn, an extinct language once spoken in Shetland, Orkney, and northern parts of Scotland”. “(http://www.omniglot.com/writing/oldnorse.htm)”. According to “Danish.” “The oldest Danish records written in runic date from circa AD 250. The first manuscripts written in a distinctly Danish language are believed to date from the 13th century.” No matter what time frame statistics are important in remembering the grandness of a language. Finally, culture which is a cornerstone for all languages that have made an impact on the world. To begin with, there are several holidays to mark an important event in the Nordic culture. The Scandinavian Viking holiday Jul is similar to our present day New Years. To the Vikings Jul was the most important holiday because it signified new beginnings. Jul is a 12 day celebration starting at the of December and the ending of January. The Nordic Gods are also involved with all of the Scandinavian Vikings holidays. The God Freyr rides across the sky on his boar sprinkling light and love into the world. In present time New Years Eve, Iceland is one of the most well known celebrators. The families of Iceland meet during noon and eat lunch. The families then go to local bonfires with friends and neighbors. Then almost the whole nation of Iceland goes silent as they watch a television show highlighting the events of the year. As soon as the television show is over, the people of Iceland start shooting off fireworks. Both past and present Iceland has held New Years close to their hearts. Another holiday celebrated by the Scandinavian Vikings was Thurseblot. In which the Vikings had a feast honoring Thor for driving back the cold with lightning. In conclusion, the Nordic language has affected the world in so many ways, it’s hard to fathom that such a monumental and aesthetic language is dying. Nordic should be shared and admired for all the great feats it has accomplished over the centuries. Even though Nordic speakers have dwindled down to a miniscule amount, there are several aspects to admire, such as the relations between the Nordic language, trade, education, religion, statistics, and culture. Nordic is an influential language not only during the Viking era, but in today’s society.
