I had an
opportunity to visit a radio station during my high school and was fascinated to
know how the networks and satellites work for sending signals and data for
transmission, as explained by my science teacher Dandushri Pilavullakandi. This
made me realize the importance of the electronic technologies and their role in
our daily lives. My interest and enthusiasm in electronics made me pursue a Bachelor’s
degree in electronics and communication engineering. To join my desired undergraduate
program, I performed well academically in science subjects with an overall score
of 81.2% in high school. I got admission into the Abdur Rahman Crescent
The modules of my
degree from Abdur Rahman University introduced me to the fundamentals of
subjects such as computer networks and wireless networks, data structures, and algorithms.
I was introduced to digital networks and information security. I was curious to
know how things worked electronically as well as to understand modern internet technologies.
During my years at university, I became acquainted with the basics of security and
vulnerabilities by reading various forums and learned about freeware tools like
Bruteforce. The wide, multifaceted span and instrumental role of information
security in our daily lives motivated me to build a career in this field.
During a department
symposium, I did a project titled “Network interrupt and packet manipulation.”
It was a demonstration based on Wireshark and other free proxy tools and
received appreciation from information and networks faculty. I did my final-year
project on advanced face recognition system using Fourier Optics and Neural
Networks. I was an executive member of IEEE Student Branch at my university
during the academic year 2011–2013 and acquired enough confidence and
inspiration to fulfil my responsibilities. My academic and interpersonal skills
helped me land a job at Risk Solutions AON. After training, I began my work as
a systems analyst.
I volunteered at
a meet-up and an event called AON-Ithon; the monthly event is conducted by an
information security team. Here, I exhibited my basic security skills; my
knowledge and interest in the field were appreciated by an IT lead, and I was offered
a chance to move to my desired domain (information security) based on the
internal company change policy. Finally, my role as a security analyst began for
clients like BNY Mellon and Best Buy. I gained real-time knowledge on live
projects and completed my certification on “Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)”;
during weekends, I attended local conferences held in my city to keep myself updated.
provided me the base to become a successful software professional, and I was
exposed to various streams being followed in IT industry. My professional expertise
taught me how to exhibit my talents in the industry. Working as a security analyst
for almost 2 years, I am ready to move toward the next phase of life by
pursuing a Master’s degree.
I believe a Master’s
degree will help me grow individually, as a graduate school attracts groups of like-minded
people with similar interests in specific areas, and it is a perfect place to
connect with peers, alumni, and faculty to acquire additional knowledge,
insight, and diversity of opinion.
through many university websites in Canada, I feel that the program offered at
your consortium accommodates my career needs the best. I believe your university
can provide me with a perfect mélange of utilizing my mental resources for
independent research. Moreover, it will be a cross-cultural experience with an
assortment of global exposure for a student like me who comes from a small town
in South India. I am confident that I will meet university’s standards. Your
program’s unique internship assignment will further hone my skills and enable
me to channel the knowledge gained from the university experience toward the
successful completion of the degree.
Above all, the
MS program will be an opportunity to work under the supervision of adept
professors and compete with international students from all around the globe,
which will prepare me to meet the challenges in the real world.
On completion of
my graduate studies, I set my sight on utilizing my expertise into presenting international
conferences in information security. I aim to establish best practices and
oversee enterprises from its conception to completion. My definite and long-term
goal is to make optimum use of my global experiences to start a training
institute in my native town. Studying in a richly diverse environment such as
Canada will enable me to become a truly global citizen. The beautiful campus, outstanding
faculty, and wonderful state of Quebec itself are the factors that have
influenced my decision to pursue M.Eng in Canada. I would consider myself
extremely fortunate to get an opportunity to study at your university and will try
to do utmost justice to my admission.
