Nowadays, language plays a vital
role especially in bonding and strengthening the communication relationship
with other peoples come from different cultural and religional background
community. As there is variety of languages in this world and the population of
their own mother tongue in the range of thousands to millions,every countries
have their own mother tongue for communication purposes with local community.However,due
to 19th centuries industrial revolution which began from England
Island mainland  and through the
historical efforts of the “The Empire On Which The  Sun Never Sets” known as Britihs Empire. During
the  colonisation process towards other
continents in the globe, English language plays a vital role as primary or
secondary language not only in many countries in which their community
structure and political environment had been actively touched by British
Imperialism for example like Canada, USA, Australia, South Africa, India and
other Middle East’s countries but also through the domination of trade and
cultural spheres.British Imperialism not only brings about the industrial
revolution but also leads to globalisation trend in this world.

English is the international common
tongue or known as lingua franca and acts as language of worldwide
communication with persons come from different continents and
countries.Besides,English language is very essential and significant to the
education field in this worldwide.This is because many scientific research and
studies in university level are all written in English language as English language
acts as the dominant language.Furthermore,English language indirectly can
promote the development of business and tourism field. With expert
international language understanding and mastering level,the way to get
assistance and help is more easy  when
travelling around the globe. Good English language skill will determine the
qualifications in engaging business venture especially in companies,government
organisations or even basic daily conversation. English,an important international
and dominant language act as catalyst especially in heading the development of  education, science, information technology
and also medication aspects which globally contribute to the progression of
human being in the present and future times.

The first article “Analyzing
English Language Learning Needs among Students in Aviation Training Program” is
written by Parvin Karimi and Reza Vahdani Sanavi in 2014, which is published in
Social and Behavioral Sciences 98 pages 852-858.This article shown  that the significance of analytical clarifying
the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses for syllabus design and materials
development is a main point needed to be considered. Meanwhile,the second
article “A Needs Anallysis Study For Preparatory  Class ELT Students” is written by Ömer Gökhan
Ulum from Adana Science and Technology University, Turkey in year 2015 in Volume
1 Issue 1 of European Journal of English Language Teaching. This is about both
the essential of academic needs for the speaking skill development and preparatory
class university students at an English Language Teaching Department. This
review compares purpose, participants, methodology, findings and conclusion of
both artices.

The main focus of the researcher Parvin
Karimi and Reza Vahdani Sanavi (2014) are the significance of analytical
classifying the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses for materials
development and syllabus design to be more relevant and reliable for the
development of speaking,listening,writing and reading skill among the students
who come from Mahan Air Aviation Training Center. The main idea carrying out
investigation for this article is to determine both the current studying life and
future life with respect to the future potential for their engaged field based
on the  English language demands of the English
language learner in Aviation Training Program for ESP courses. The study result
listed out the needs and the problems of the students towards the current ESP
courses.There are lots of invaluable investigation needed to be understood by curriculum
developers towards students needs.Meanwhile, fot the second article “A Needs Anallysis
Study For Preparatory  Class ELT Students”
by Ömer Gökhan Ulum is  to find out the
problems and solutions the ELT students required more mainly in terms of their
speaking skill development to be more effectively in continuing for their
following courses in their department.Through this investigation,it is
essential for teacher candidates to be more alert and understanding about their
courses in order to meet up the students needs more easily. The primary aim of
this study is to investigate speaking skill development, perceptions towards
the speaking courses of ELT courses. The secondary aim of the study is to identify
the understanding priority of educational candidates how efficiency are their ELT
courses in English language preparatory classes in order to substain their
needs as nowadays English  being international
dominant language or known as lingua franca and thus being responsibly to
improve the mastering level of English language.

 METHODOLOGY

Participants:

For first article “Analyzing
English Language Learning Needs among Students in Aviation Training Program” wrotten
by Parvin Karimi and Reza Vahdani Sanavi in year 2014, the participants consist
of  40 persons whose are 20 undergraduate
students, 15 graduate students and 5 instructors. Meanwhile,for the second
article “A Needs Anallysis Study For Preparatory  Class ELT Students” wrotten by Ömer Gökhan
Ulum from Adana Science and Technology University, Turkey in year 2015 ,the
participants of this study comprised 150 ELT students whose 30 graduates out of
these particapants are voluntarily participated in this study.The male and
female ratio are out of balance,that is almost 3:7 or the actual value are 44
to 106 out of 150 participants. As the participants are all Turkish and only
reading as well as grammar and vocabulary is allowed to tested with them during
questionnaire.

 

Instruments:

 
The researcher Parvin Karimi and Reza Vahdani Sanavi (2014) from first
article “Analyzing English Language Learning Needs among Students in Aviation
Training Program” use the multiple way to collect data and information related
to the  needs of the students who
participated in this research. The way they used are the questionnaire,
structured interview and semi-structured interview in order to prove the
validity of the  this study.First part to
be tested are four skills,that is reading,wiritng,listening and speaking while
second part main focus on the needs of the students.The last part in which a
list of 33,13 and 23-item questionnaire are tested with the idea of undergraduate
students, instructors and graduate students respectively towards the current
ESP courses. Through these all researches, which parts in ESP courses gain more
attention and needed to be  improved can
be get known by ESP courses researchers and could predict the most suitable
subjects matter should be included in the following syllabus of undergraduate
ESP courses.  

  Meanwhile,for
the second article “A Needs Anallysis Study For Preparatory  Class ELT Students” by Ömer Gökhan Ulum just
use the adapted questionnaire with open ended questions to gather idea and
information for this study. ELT students as well as graduates from Çukurova
University, Turkey are the questionnaire target sources to gain informations
about ELT courses. Among 30 questions with multiple options were prepared in
questionnaire for the participants to choose for their answers besides open-ended
questions adapted from the study of Hutchinson and Waters (1987) were also used
to supply the students with an opportunity to express their views freely. The
results about ELT courses are all based on the responds from these 150
participants.
