Ryan Kwong Mr. DavenportHistory – 45 January 2018Vinton Cerf    Vinton Cerf, an American computer scientist born in 1943, is very well known for his achievements revolutionizing the world we know today. His most recognized invention is the Internet. The Internet was first invented in the late 1960s by co-founders Vinton Cerf and Robert E. Kahn. Along with the invention of the Internet and the help of Robert E. Kahn, Vinton Cerf also invented the Transmission Control Protocol and the Internet Protocol, also known as the TCP/IP, a protocol that allows computers to communicate with each other.    Vinton Cerf, as a student, graduated out of multiple very prestigious schools. “Cerf received his Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics from Stanford University in California” (Dennis) in 1965, then in 1970, he received a Master’s Degree in Computer Science. Finally, to even further his education in technology, Cerf acquired his Doctorate Degree in Computer Science again in 1972.    After finishing his education, Vinton Cerf worked at many large technology companies. For instance, Cerf “served as chairman of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers from 2000-2007” (Ryan). Then, later in 2012, “Former President Obama appointed him to the National Science Board” (Ryan).    With great respect to his inventions, Cerf has also been awarded many awards. One award that Cerf has been awarded with was the A.M. Turing Award which is the highest honor in the technology field. Nevertheless, the Internet is one of the largest impacts in the world as it was a huge advance for technology. The Internet is being used every second, and this is all thanks to Vinton Cerf, the cofounder of the Internet and TCP/IP.Works CitedDennis, Michael Aaron. “Vinton Cerf.” Encyclopædia Britannica, Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc., 8 June 2017, www.britannica.com/biography/Vinton-Cerf.”Internet.” Wikipedia, Wikimedia Foundation, 4 Jan. 2018, en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet.”National Science Foundation – Where Discoveries Begin.” Vinton G.
