The world that we live in is always altering, moving, and erupting with new landforms. The Earth isn’t just a ball of water and land, under the crust that we stand on there’s a constant convection current that pushes humongous tectonic plates into each other. That current can cause many landforms to appear, huge disasters to occur, and destruction of the upper mantle and crust in the ocean. Oceanic-oceanic convergent boundaries are very similar to other convergent boundaries however they have their differences too. Though it may seem like the Earth is completely stable, the crust of the Earth is constantly gliding and breaking. In an oceanic-oceanic convergent boundary, convection currents cause two oceanic plates to strike into each other. The plate that is older and denser subducts under the second plate. The denser plate is pushed through the mantle and through the layering rock material under the crust. This event can destroy the ocean’s lithosphere. As the plate is moving deeper into the mantle, it melts the plate and recycles it. It is a very slow process but still the plates are slowly going and still creating landforms above them.When the plate goes under it creates a trench and a deep subduction zone at where the plate was pushed into the mantle. As the plate goes deeper, it creates magma chambers beneath the surface of the Earth. As those magma chambers reach the surface of the ocean, it starts to solidify into volcanoes. These plates generate very powerful movements in the ocean and can result in earthquakes and tsunamis. It is known that subduction zones create the biggest and largest earthquakes. The plates crashing can create the upper plate to make island arcs, or a line of small islands, such as Hawaii. An oceanic-oceanic convergent boundary isn’t very different from any other convergent boundary. The oceanic-continental convergent boundaries can result in subduction zones and deep ocean trenches too. They’re both created by the convection currents in the mantle and they both can create earthquakes. The only difference may be the different landforms that they create. The attributes are very similar to a continental convergent boundary. Oceanic convergent boundary plates crash into each other by the convection currents in the mantle. These plates can make massive changes in the Earth’s crust such as erupting volcanoes and large ocean trenches. They’re not that much different to any other convergent boundary too. Oceanic-oceanic convergent boundaries may move little by little but the changes they make are big.
