Within urban planning of the district, the wind directions are taken into consideration and also prevent the
population which is caused by the industrial areas around the district. Also
taking the old building structure (existing construction) in consideration to renovate it to new
buildings and new function (Gern et al,2017).
The district deliberates with free-parking areas in the end of the district to
serve the residents, but the district depends on a public transportation and
the perfect location strategy of the district that gives a flexible movement.
These mentioned reasons from the previous paragraphs show that Amsterdam counts as one of the most
intelligent cities in one of the most
promoted countries between the developed
countries. (Van Doran et al, 2015).
For more explanation, one of the smart city in the developed country is Barcelona city in Spain.
Barcelona city for more than a decade utilized the (ICTs) to developing
the urban mission with improving several projects. Barcelona plan toward smart
urbanization which started from urban planning development by starting the infrastructure, environment, city
services, housing, water, energy, ICTs, architecture, and energy, and so on.
This new urbanization projects applied to globalization and intelligent
characters in the Barcelona city to be
one of the smartest city among the developed countries (Angelidou, 2016). A new
smart network, smart water, smart people, smart mobility and transportation,
smart lightening, building, efficient energy, smart waste and the city smart
website led Barcelona to be at the headlong of the smart cities rank between
the developed countries (Angelidou, 2016). As mentioned in the previous
studies, these are the main characteristics and strategies of the smart cities
and their applications in both developed and developing countries. So, in the
term of technology and the essence of the smart city components and strategies,
I would like to apply the smart city principles in the city the I live in
(Sulaimaniyah). Sulaimaniyah city is located in the north of Iraq, which is one of the Middle Eastern countries, in
other meanings, one of the developing countries.
Sulaimaniyah city, as a result of political changes since 2006, the city
has witnessed rapid changes in different aspects including the expansion of the
city after the increase in population, globalization effects, the emergence of large environmental develop and
urban developments. These changes led a re-formulation and re-planning the
urban master plan that depends on the
world new city models and taking new city standard in consideration to keep up
the development in the new urban planning models.
this paper, the expansion of Sulaymaniyah
city will also be discussed to near Tasluja area, which is a future expansion
direction for developing and expanding Sulaimaniyah city, according to the
principle and strategies of the smart city model.
The main reasons behind the requirements of smart cities in developed
and developing countries:
urban population are massive and unplanned in the developing countries.
shifts of the population from rural areas to urban.
The countries with
the above rapid conditions will determine disordered, unsustainable and minimal
need for the credible quality of life.
processing problems such as (retrograde, relapsing, and unsuitable
infrastructure of the cities, traffic overcrowding, air pollution, waste
management and etc.)
social intricacy problems like growing of
shams effects, swelling the health concerns and etc.
such as unemploymentation, misapply of resources, unsustainable economic
development, and etc.
The smart city ideas in developing
countries help to interrogate for running and employing challenges either in
social, economic, political, or time
frame in achieving the goals and protecting a sustainable development.
Thus, developing countries require improving a strategically view and fiction for
smart city program in order to obtain social, economic,
political, practical challenges, and sustainable environments.
